5 Brewing Mistakes

5 Brewing Mistakes

1. Buying pre-ground beans

Pre-ground beans are convenient, however coffee beans begin losing their freshness instantly after grinding them. to protect the flavour of the beans, you should grind beans just before using.

2. Storing beans in the freezer or fridge

Though storing other foods this way maintains freshness, coffee beans are actually best stored at room temperature in an air tight container. Roasted beans are very porous and can absorb the moisture and smells of other foods in the fridge.

3. Using Boiling water to brew

Brewing with boiling water extracts bitterness and acidity from the beans. The Ideal temperature is around 93C (200F). The best way to achieve the right temperature is to wait 45 seconds after boiling.

4. Using too much or too little coffee

The perfect coffee to water ratio is 2 tablespoons of ground coffee for every 6oz of water.
